Ex-RCMP to Patrol Belfast Forces

A 34-year RCMP veteran has been appointed police ombudsman in Northern Ireland, the Associated Press reported yesterday. Al Hutchinson, who was the top Mountie in Ontario when he retired in 2001, will replace Nuala O'Loan, who was allegedly highly biased in her position. Mr. Hutchinson already has several years experience in Northern Ireland helping reform the territory's mainly Protestant police force.
