Arctic Claims Turn Up Heat

Russian scientists last week said they have proof their country is connected to an undersea mountain that would give Russia a claim to about 1.2 million square kilometers of the Arctic Ocean's floor, and the untold riches that lie beneath, Canwest News Service reported. However, Canadian officials, who are conducting their own study of the Arctic seafloor with help from Denmark, say Russia's claim is premature.
