Chinese Court Rejects Appeal

Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay said Canada was "deeply disappointed" with a Chinese Superior Court decision to reject an appeal by Uighur-Canadian Huseyin Celil, who has been sentenced to life in prison for allegedly working to undermine the Chinese state. China has refused to recognize Mr. Celil's Canadian citizenship since he was arrested in Uzbekistan and extradited to China in June 2006.
