NATO Forces on Short Notice

Defence Minister Gordon O'Connor has put one frigate and six CF-18 aircraft on short notice to deploy on operations with the NATO Response Force from July 2007 to January 2008. The force, which is separate from the mission in Afghanistan, was last deployed to provide emergency assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims in the U.S. and earthquakes in Pakistan. The force is made up of 25,000 troops from member countries that can be deployed anywhere in the world after five days' notice.
