A week after the six Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, public support for the mission was almost evenly split, according to a new poll conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of CanWest news. Fifty per cent of respondents said they either 'strongly' or 'somewhat' supported the mission, while 45 per cent 'strongly' or 'somewhat' opposed. The survey of 1,002 adults was conducted between July 10-12 and is considered accurate to within plus or minus 3.1 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
