Police Clear Themselves

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair released an internal police department report Monday that cleared his officers of any wrong doing in the arrest of Chile's under-20 soccer team following the tumultuous end to the Chile-Argentina semi-final. Patricio Bascunan, president of the Salvador Allende Cultural Society of Toronto, told The Toronto Star that while the police report was important, it fell short, and he called for a fair, independent investigation. Asked whether the government has responded to a formal complaint by Chile about the way the U-20 players were treated, DFAIT spokesman Réjean Beaulieu said: "That's an exchange between governments and we don't comment on that."
