Canada committed an additional $48 million to the African Union Mission in Sudan last week after the UN Security Council decided to establish a joint AU-UN peace operation. The money will be used to pay for helicopters, aircraft and fuel that will be needed to transport African Union troops into the Darfur region. Canada has already committed more than $400 million to humanitarian assistance in the war-torn region.
