Immigration Hearings in Quebec

A new commission headed by philosopher Charles Taylor and sociologist Gerard Bouchard began a series of hearings on cultural differences and immigrant integration on Monday in Gatineau, Que. A total of 17 hearings will take place throughout the province with the aim of capping an often bitter public debate on the integration of immigrants in Quebec. The commission expects to hear from individuals, experts, groups and institutions that deal with cultural communities, immigrant issues, religion and Quebec identity over the next three months.
