Asia Ban on Canadian Poultry

In response to an outbreak of bird flu on a large chicken farm in Regina, Saskatchewan last week, Japan's agriculture ministry has banned imports of Canadian poultry, reports the Economic Times. The ban takes effect immediately. China has also banned Canadian poultry and has ordered all poultry imports and related products destroyed. Last year, Japan imported 60,000 young chickens and 2,500 tons of processed eggs from Canada, accounting for 10 per cent of the Japanese market.
