Rallying Behind Cuban Five

Published: Wednesday, 11/14/2007 12:00 am EST

A two-day conference was held last week in Toronto to strategize about how to achieve the release of the so-called Cuban Five. The Cuban Five are a group of Cuban government agents who were active in Florida in the late 1990s, ostensibly to monitor the activities of anti-Cuban terrorist groups. The five were arrested and have been in American prisons for over 10 years. The wife of one of the men, Elizabeth Palmeiro, was brought to Canada by the Cuban government for the event. Cuban Ambassador Ernesto Senti Darias also held a film screening and discussion at his embassy in Ottawa.
