Stop China Threats: Liberals

Liberal critics are warning the government that its threats, aimed to pressure China into allowing Chinese tourists to visit Canada en masse, could damage the Canadian tourism industry. Yesterday International Trade Minister David Emerson said that unless a three-year old dispute with China over Approved Country Status is resolved soon, he is prepared to bring the issue before the WTO. Liberal International Trade critic Navdeep Bains said in a statement that "two years of repeated diplomatic missteps and the consistent use of aggressive and undiplomatic language by the Prime Minister and his ministers have deprived Canada of trade and investment opportunities with China."
