Mohamed Kohail, a 23-year-old Montrealer, has been sentenced to death by beheading after being convicted of first-degree murder in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Kohail allegedly killed an 18-year-old man in a schoolyard brawl after his 16-year-old brother called on him for protection. Mr. Kohail, who was born in the kingdom, has 80 days to appeal the verdict. Dan McTeague, (above) the Liberal critic for consular services, has called on the government to seek clemency for Mr. Kohail. Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier said: "We're prepared to help the family so that they can appeal that decision, and we hope that ultimately the verdict can be changed."
