About 150 Serbian-Canadians showed up on Parliament Hill last Saturday, calling on the Canadian government not to recognize Kosovo, which seceded from Serbia last month. Protest leaders decried Kosovo's "illegal" secession from Serbia, and cheered repeated choruses of "Kosovo is Serbia!" One speaker warned that the recognition of Kosovo "sets a very dangerous international precedent for secessionist movements, particularly those that use violence to attain their goal. By recognizing Kosovo as an independent state, Canada would be rewarding secessionist movements that use violence to further their agenda." No MPs were at the demonstration.
