Committee Visit Secrecy

Opposition members of the Commons' defence committee expressed concern last week over tight security restrictions that meant their trip couldn't be reported until after they'd left the country, the Canadian Press reported. NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar said the two-day visit's blackout was an obvious attempt to ensure a slip like that by former Foreign Affairs minister Maxime Bernier, who suggested the governor of Kandahar needed to be replaced, wouldn't be repeated.
