Canada's claim to a chunk of the mineral- and energy-rich Arctic ocean seafloor could see it butting heads with Russia and Denmark as it is likely to extend beyond the North Pole, the National Post reported Monday. Jacob Verhoef, the Natural Resources Canada scientist in charge of mapping Canada's claim, said that while "the gathering of data beyond the pole is not our highest priority," doing so would take into account "the political realities and ramifications."
