NDP CIDA critic Alexa McDonough revealed on Monday that she will not be running for re-election in the next election. Ms. McDonough, 63, was first elected to Parliament in 1997 after being named leader of the federal NDP in 1995. She handed over the leadership to Jack Layton in 2003 and served at various times as critic for foreign affairs and human rights. "I hope I'll be able to make some forays out into the big, wide world around the issues that I really care about, but I have no plans. No need to have any plans," CBC quoted her as saying.
