Allied Naval Exercise

Published: Wednesday, 07/02/2008 12:00 am EDT

Over the weekend, Canadian sailors participated in the largest series of naval war games held in the Pacific. The Rim of the Pacific, or RIMPAC, occurs once every two years. This year, two Canadian ships, as well as vessels from the United States, Britain, Australia, Chile, Japan, South Korea and Singapore, participated. Participating ships ran live-fire exercises off the coast of Hawaii. The exercises are done in preparation for hypothetical threats such as a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or threats by North Korea to its neighbours.
