Balsillie Does Africa

Published: Wednesday, 07/09/2008 12:00 am EDT

A new five-year initiative was launched this week to help Africans deal with the effects of global climate change. The Africa Project is a collaborative initiative backed by the Waterloo, Ont.-based Centre for International Governance Innovation in partnership with the Salama SHIELD Foundation and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. From a base in Uganda, the project will explore topics such as health, migration, energy, food security, and conflict resolution. The group of private donors backing the project is remaining anonymous, but among them is Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of Research In Motion.
