IRPA Consultations Begin

Published: Wednesday, 07/09/2008 12:00 am EDT

Immigration Minister Diane Finley announced last week a summer schedule for 11 cross-country consultations on immigration priorities as part of new immigration legislation passed in June. The new law gives the minister the authority to deem certain types of applicants as priorities through written instructions, and the ability to return others or hold them for future consideration. The minister has said the instructions will be drafted based on input provided from business, labour, academic, non-government and government organization during the consultations.
