Ottawa Fought for Khadr Then...

The Canadian government fought to keep Canadian Omar Khadr from being transferred to the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after he was captured in 2002, the former head of consular services at Foreign Affairs told the Globe and Mail last week. Gar Pardy said he tried to use the fact that Mr. Khadr was 15 years old when he was captured as "the largest club" to "beat up the Americans on." A diplomatic note was sent in September 2002, but Washington moved ahead with the transfer anyway.
