Afghan Goals Dropped

The government has been accused of lowering expectations for Afghanistan after internal documents obtained by the Globe and Mail were unearthed on Monday. Defence Department officials were planning ambitious goals in terms of undercutting insurgent strengths and combating poppy growing in early 2007, the documents show. However, the public goals outlined by the government in June set no such targets and only vague statements for the next three years.
