Defence Spending Kerfuffle

Published: Wednesday, 08/13/2008 12:00 am EDT

Defence Minister Peter MacKay lashed out at the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence last week after committee members released a scathing report on defence funding, CTV reported. The report found that the government's promise to increase spending by two per cent per year "is a silly policy," according to committee chair and Liberal Senator Colin Kenny, because inflation rates will supercede the increases. Mr. MacKay said Mr. Kenny has "a profound misunderstanding" of what the government is doing for the Canadian Forces, and that it has made "an unprecedented commitment."
