Jean Charest secured a third mandate as Quebec premier in the province's provincial elections Monday, his third straight win for the provincial Liberal party. Charest entered the election with a minority and emerged with a majority. The Parti Quebecois picked up 15 seats and will form the official opposition. The big loser of the evening was the Action démocratique du Québec, which entered the election with 41 seats but lost 34 of them. ADQ leader Mario Dumont promptly stepped down.
