An American company, Navistar Defence LLC, has been awarded the contract to build 1,300 new trucks for the Canadian Forces, Defence Minister Peter MacKay announced Friday. The trucks, which have been outfitted for military use and purchased for $274 million, will be used in Canada. The first trucks will be delivered by this summer, and all should be delivered within 18 months. Mr. MacKay defended the decision to purchase from an American company, saying Canadian companies will benefit economically from the project.
