Canada was the only member of the UN Human Rights Council to vote against a motion on Monday condemning the Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip, the Toronto Star reported. Thirty-three countries supported the motion, calling for an investigation into "grave" human rights violations by Israeli forces, while 13 nations, most of them European, abstained. The Conservative government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been heavily criticized for positioning itself as a strong supporter of Israel at the council and other fora.
