The rate at which the Canadian Forces is losing personnel has increased every year for the past five years, according to documents obtained by Sun Media. In 2004-05, 6.7 per cent of the military's personnel left through retirement or medical release, with that rate up to 9.2 per cent for the first 10 months of 2008. Of the more than 7,000 that left in 2008, about 200 were senior non-commissioned officers. Experts blame long-term effects of cutbacks during the 1990s and the mission in Afghanistan.
