Diplomats and community leaders are reporting an increasing number of Icelanders are looking for ways to move to Canada in the wake of the European country's recent financial meltdown, the Globe and Mail reported.

Diplomats and community leaders are reporting an increasing number of Icelanders are looking for ways to move to Canada in the wake of the European country's recent financial meltdown, the Globe and Mail reported. "It's a trickle, not quite a torrent," said Atli Asmundsson, consul-general of Iceland's Manitoba consulate. "But unemployment will be hitting hard in the next couple of weeks and we may see more." A large number of Icelanders moved to Canada's prairies because in the 19th and 20th centuries for the same reasons.
