Comments made by French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a visit by Quebec Premier Jean Charest to Paris this week have stirred some sovereigntists, Maclean's reported. In a speech inducting Mr. Charest into the Legion of Honour on Monday, Mr. Sarkozy made "veiled references" to Canadian unity, stating the world does not need divisions as it negotiates a global economic crisis. Mr. Sarkozy said Quebecers are his brothers, and that Canada is his friend.
