Canadian to be Somali PM

The Canadian son of a murdered former president of Somalia will be the next prime minister in the African country's new power-sharing government, the Globe and Mail reported. Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, 48, was nominated prime minister by Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed. Mr. Sharmarke's father, Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, was elected president but killed in 1969 before a military coup. Mr. Sharmarke has degrees in political science and political economy from Carleton University and has worked with the United Nations in Sudan and Sierra Leone.
