Turkish Ambassador Recalled

Turkish Ambassador to Canada Rafet Akgünay is back home this week after being recalled for consultations as Canada stands firm in its recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. He was recalled two days before Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff attended a commemorative event on Parliament Hill held by the Armenian National Committee of Canada on April 21. A spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon insisted Canada's position—official recognition of the genocide—is "not an indictment of modern Turkey."
