Pork Ban Challenge

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz told the House of Commons on Monday that China has received assurances from the World Health Organization that pork products are safe and, as such, Canada is looking for an explanation on why China has banned the import of Alberta pork.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz told the House of Commons on Monday that China has received assurances from the World Health Organization that pork products are safe and, as such, Canada is looking for an explanation on why China has banned the import of Alberta pork. "We will have a response to that very shortly," he said. "Should China continue on, of course there is the WTO challenge which we would not hesitate to initiate." About 200 pigs in a herd of 2,200 in Alberta were showing signs of the virus.
