The government has extended the counter-piracy mission of the HMCS Winnipeg off the Horn of Africa to the beginning of June, the Department of National Defence reported. The Canadian warship has been in the Gulf of Aden since April and, according to Defence Minister Peter MacKay, has helped prevent at least three pirate attacks. The Winnipeg is part of the Standing NATO Maritime Group that includes vessels from Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
