Pirate-Hunting Mission Extended

HMCS Winnipeg's mission off the coast of Somalia warding off pirates has been extended until at least June at NATO's request, the Ottawa Citizen reported. The warship joined the NATO-led mission on April 2, and was supposed to be finished by the end of the month. The mission was extended once before after several high-profile incidents in the Gulf of Aden, including one where the ship's crew apprehended and released several pirates. Defence Minister Peter MacKay said last week that the government is looking at legal avenues to prosecute captured pirates.
