A pilot project that allows joint patrols between RCMP officers and U.S. Coast Guard members in the Great Lakes has gotten the go-ahead, the Globe and Mail reported. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan made the joint announcement from Detroit. The agreement on project "Shiprider" came one day before Ms. Napolitano is scheduled to visit Ottawa, where she will continue discussions on border issues. Ms. Napolitano courted controversy last month when she suggested the 9/11 terrorists entered the U.S. from Canada.
