American motor coach tours to Canada have fallen by 30 per cent from the previous year, which is being seen as proof new U.S. passport rules are having a dramatic impact on the Canadian tourism industry, the National Post reported. John Stachnik, vice-chairman of the United States Tour Operators Association, said the 30 per cent decline is nearly the same as the percentage of surveyed members who did not have and did not plan to get a passport. Meanwhile, Statistics Canada reports same-day trips from the United States to Canada have fallen by almost 70 per cent since 2001.
