Push China On Uyghur Violence

The Canada Tibet Committee is calling on the Canadian government to "intervene immediately" with the Chinese government in response to the events in Urumqi, China on Sunday, and to ensure an impartial and independent investigation be launched after a peaceful protest turned violent, resulting in at least 156 deaths. "The federal government must state in the strongest of possible terms to their Chinese counterparts that the use of violence and arbitrary arrests against those taking part in peaceful protests must cease," CTC Executive Director Dermod Travis said.
