Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon turned up the heat on Iran last week, calling on Iranian authorities to release Maziar Bahari, an Iranian-Canadian journalist being held by the Iranian government. A reporter for Newsweek, Mr. Bahari was covering Iran's disputed election and has been in custody for over two weeks. "Canada is gravely concerned about the continuing detention of Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, and by the Iranian regime's disregard for basic human rights, including freedom of expression," Minister Cannon said in a statement.
