The Russian Embassy has reacted with surprise after Defence Minister Peter MacKay reacted strongly to news of a scheduled Russian paratrooper jump into the Arctic next year, Canwest News reported.

The Russian Embassy has reacted with surprise after Defence Minister Peter MacKay reacted strongly to news of a scheduled Russian paratrooper jump into the Arctic next year, Canwest News reported. Embassy spokesman Sergey Khudyakov said that the drop will happen in international airspace and is "solely symbolic" unrelated to control over the Arctic Ocean seabed. Mr. MacKay had said Canada would "meet any challenge" to its territorial sovereignty.
