Published: Wednesday, 08/05/2009 12:00 am EDTThe much-anticipated Canada-Peru free trade agreement went into effect on Aug. 1, International Trade Minister Stockwell Day announced. Canada now has six functioning FTAs, while pacts with Jordan and Colombia have been signed but not yet approved by Parliament. Two-way trade between Canada and Peru reached $2.8 billion last year, while Canadian direct investment into the Latin America country is estimated to be about $2.35 billion.
