The Conservative government ordered them to protect Canadian troops in Afghanistan from attack, but as it turns out, 15 Chinook helicopters won't be delivered until 2013, the Globe and Mail reported. The government came clean Monday when it announced the heavy-lift helicopters would not be received for four years, well after the scheduled 2011 pull-out of Afghanistan. "The new CH-147F helicopters will be used to assist civil authorities in responding to emergencies such as floods, forest fires and earthquakes, helping to keep Canadians safe and secure," the Department of National Defence said in its information package.
