Fraud tarnished Afghan election

Western officials say Afghanistan's election is so fraudulent that even if a new government emerges, it will be tarnished, the Times Online reported Sept. 1. Ahmad Nader Nadery, head of the Afghan Free and Fair Election Foundation, said the scale of the vote-rigging was serious, and David Kilcullen, one of the architects of NATO's counter-insurgency campaign, said the insurgency is outgoverning the government. An anonymous international observer said the pattern is "of systematic and widespread fraud...this is large scale and it is across the country."
