Canada has launched negotiations for a free trade agreement with Ukraine, International Trade Minister Stockwell Day announced yesterday. Last year, exports to Ukraine totalled $229.7 million, an 80 per cent increase from the year before and a 400 per cent jump from 2004. Agricultural and aerospace machinery topped the list of Canadian exports. In a press release, Mr. Day said an FTA could further open markets for exports such as agricultural, seafood and pharmaceutical products, while addressing non-tariff barriers. Ukraine is one of Canada's most favoured political partners in Eastern Europe.
