Visa appeal system demanded

Responding to widespread reports of arbitrary visa approval procedures, NDP Immigration critic Olivia Chow says she wants an appeal process for prospective travellers to Canada who have their visa applications rejected. She said it's cruel to deny visas to people who simply want to attend weddings or funerals in Canada. "Decisions appear to be made on a whim, and refusals seem to be more likely for applicants who are not from European countries," said Ms. Chow. "Without a free appeals process, like in the UK and Australia, applicants are left high and dry."
