American greenhouse gas emission targets may look similar to Canada's, but they are actually more stringent, the Toronto Star reported. The US plan includes investments in green development in poor countries, leading to an eventual 28 to 34 per cent emission reduction from 2005 levels. That's higher than the 17 per cent reduction by 2020 target to which they committed through cap and trade. Canadian officials have argued their target is slightly stronger than the Americans, promising a 20 per cent reduction over 2006 levels by 2020.
