No abortion in G8 plan: Oda

The government will not use foreign aid to pay for abortion, the Toronto Star reported. CIDA Bev Oda made the announcement Monday as she prepared to host a meeting of G8 development ministers in Halifax. The government had been obtuse on the issue for months since announcing its maternal and child health initiative while fellow G8 ministers, particularly US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have come out strongly in favour of such support.
