Canadian soldier slain

Another Canadian soldier has died in Afghanistan, the 143rd to fall since the mission began in 2002. Petty Officer Douglas Craig Blake, 37, was killed by a roadside bomb on May 4 in Panjwai'i District, 25 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City, after having disarmed another IED, the Toronto Star reported. Petty Officer Blake was part of a rotation of newly arrived troops readying for an anticipated summer offensive to seize momentum from the Taliban. His body is to be flown home to Canada after a ramp ceremony at Kandahar Airfield.
