Sources indicate Waterloo-based company Research In Motion might have reached a deal with the Indian government that would give Indian authorities access to the BlackBerry’s messenger services, Reuters reported, citing an anonymous source. Indian news outlets have also run several stories with phrases like “BlackBerry blinks.” RIM faces an Aug. 31 deadline to give Indian authorities the means to read emails and instant messages sent through the smart phone or risk being shut down. The company has been thrown into controversy over its data-sharing system after countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia demanded RIM give them access because of national security reasons.
