Sri Lankan Tamils remain in jail

Canadian government officials said the more than 400 Sri Lankan Tamils who arrived in Canada aboard a cargo ship almost two weeks ago must remain in jail, the BBC reported. The Immigration and Refugee Board agreed with the government's requests for more time to check the migrants' identity papers. Officials want to verify whether any are militants from the Tamil Tigers, a group banned in Canada.
