Czechs still rue visas

Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas told European Commission President Jose Barroso that the Canadian decision in 2009 to impose visa requirements for Czech visitors is still a sensitive issue, the Czech news agency reported. Speaking ahead of the EU bloc Summit last week, Mr. Necas said the EU bloc should exert pressure on Canada to see the visa requirement lifted. Canada re-imposed the rule due to a high number of Roma refugee claimants coming from the Czech Republic. The European Commission has threatened to impose visas on Canadian diplomats, but it has never followed through, the agency reported.
