Anti-smuggling law on its way

The Canadian government will soon unveil legislation to deter future illegal immigration, Agence France-Presse quoted Prime Minister Stephen Harper as saying in response to the Tamil cargo ship that arrived on Canadian shores. Mr. Harper said his government will make amendments to the Immigration Act, which is "designed to ensure [that] we deter this kind of behavior ... which for the vast majority of Canadians is completely unacceptable." Canadian border officials detained almost 500 Tamil migrants who arrived on the MV Sun Sea ship in August.
